Five Minutes Peace

Jazlyn laid out a pillow and blanket on the living room floor, and guided me to it.

"Lay down, Mama. It's time for nigh-night. Lay down, shhhh, good girl, go to sleeeep...go to sleeeep," she crooned as she covered me up with the blanket, and stroked my hair.

I willingly submitted. The girls continued with their playing. Just as I was really starting to relax, Jazlyn grabbed my face with both hands, one on each cheek, and got about two inches from my face, "WAKE UP! TIME TO WAKE UP!!!"

My eyes jerked open, startled by the sudden shock back to reality. Sophia was sitting next to my head as well, and declared with wide eyes, "Mama, you slept for FIVE MINUTES."

My eyes grew wide, as I said, "FIVE WHOLE MINUTES? That's the most I've slept in yeeears!"

Sophia solemnly nodded in agreement.

I'm T-t-t-t-tired

We hung this up, well, for Father's Day. Four days ago.

Apparently, I have a stutter when I write. OR an extreme case of sleep deprivation, which would also explain why I just noticed this now.

Tread Lightly

Brody is a funny little sleeper. He sleeps in our room in a crib. He can sleep through some of the girl's screams from the other room, but when we make the almost inaudible noise of pulling back our covers to climb in bed, he wakes up. It has become a running joke between Jared and I. Last night, as we climbed into bed, Brody started to stir. I got an inch from Jared's ear and whispered,

"Shhh! You're breathing too loud!"

He came right back with,

"No, I think there was some lotion on my hands that just evaporated."

A loud laugh exploded from within me and I could not contain it. Brody did not wake up. Go figure.

Bad Dreams

Every single morning the following scene plays out:

Walking into the girls' room...

Me: Good morning Angels, how did you sleep?

Jaz: Goot!

Me: Good! Did you have any dreams?

Jaz: YAH!!

Me: What did you dream about?

Jaz: Baby Jesus!

Me: Baby Jesus?! That's wonderful!!!

Sophia, sad face: I have bad dreams.

Me: You had bad dreams?? Oh no! What were your bad dreams about?

Sophia: NOT about baby Jesus.

Every morning.
Without fail.

Imagine My Surprise...

...when I walked into the girls' room during naptime to find this!

It was so funny, that I couldn't even be mad. So I asked them how they got up there, and had them show me...

Daddy Magic

Last night, Jared and I went on a much needed date. Sophia had her own date with Papa. Thing is, we forgot to tell him that she does not get a nap after dinner.

When it came time to put her down for the night, she was not cooperating. I rocked her, sang to her, nursing her, rocked and sang some more. Finally, she drifted off. Then, immediately woke up and was wide awake. This happened three times over the course of 45 minutes and 8 nursings (ugh). Finally I came out of the room crying and let her play on the floor for awhile. Then Nathan walked out of his room and saw my frustration. He said, "She's probably not sleepy. Did Dad tell you that she had a nap about an hour-and-a-half ago?"

Ahhhh. That would have been nice to know.

About 1.5 hours later (yes, she was THAT awake), I went in to try the whole routine again. This time it took about 30 minutes to get her to sleep once. After she finally drifted off, I waited a few minutes, then gently eased her into her crib. The eyes flew open. I knew they wouldn't close again. I stormed out of the room with hot tears burning my face again and plopped her in Jared's lap. He told me to go sit down and enjoy a frozen Snickers bar (my favorite treat right now). He sat at his computer, bouncing her on his knee. After about 15 minutes, he whispered, "Honey, she is asleep whenever you want to put her down. She fell asleep sitting on my knee."

WHAT??

Sometimes girls just need their daddies.

I'm Tired

I am tired.

Sophia, Poppy and I are all contributing to my fatigue.

Sophia= Sicky bear. She has been having a rough couple of days (and nights), and has been my Little Miss Crankypuss. She frequently awakens at night. Yesterday, she was fighting off her cold big time and ended up sleeping ALL DAY, and so last night was playtime. :(

Poppy= Need I even explain how Poppy is contributing? I am growing a human. Enough said.

Me= We are moving. In two days. I have been staying up all night with Sophia. Packing. Organizing. Labeling. Cooking. Cleaning. Blogging. It takes a lot out of ya.

I am very excited to move, and be done with it. I look forward to being settled in at Gary's for the year, and not having to think about packing anymore! I hate moving. It is a lot of work. Especially while also caring for a 4 month old, and brewin' another. So, yes, I am tired. Caffeine would be my best friend, but not Poppy's, and my devotion lies with me kids.

Okay. I am done whining.

Thankfully, Cara and Josh are stocking us up on boxes, and Mom and Dad are coming to help us pack this weekend. Yipee! Thank goodness for friends and family!
